Should you file a Home Insurance Claim?
You buy home insurance so that your property and valuables are protected. This gives you the right to file a home insurance claim should this be needed. The only problem is that some people don't want to file a claim for one reason or the next. There are times when you should definitely do this, but others when you may want to stand back and take care of things on your own.
If you are only dealing with a small amount of damage you may not want to file a home insurance claim. The reason for this is that you could end up paying more for your deductible than it would take to fix the problem on your own. Only you know how much your deductible is, and what type of repair cost you are facing.
You should also realize that filing a claim may increase your home insurance premium. This is never a good thing, especially if you are on a tight budget. But remember, you have the right to get your home fixed and/or recover any valuables. This may mean that your home insurance company increases your premium, but in the long run you don't really have a choice.
What is the point of home insurance if you are never going to make a claim? This does not mean you should be looking for a reason to file a claim, but if the situation presents itself you need to consider the pros and cons of doing so. When you file a home insurance claim you are on the road to recovering from whatever disaster struck your property.
